Clearwater Staff and Volunteers Set to Work to Enhance Roadway

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The city of Clearwater’s staff and community volunteers will be engaged in Paint and Installation Day on Saturday, January 21 to enhance the roadway along Fort Harrison Avenue as part of the Pop-Up North Marina Community Streets Experiment.

City staff and volunteers will work in teams to paint a sidewalk extension, paint a crosswalk, install planters and install benches along Fort Harrison Avenue in the city’s North Marina neighborhood. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and participants will meet at Fort Harrison Avenue and Seminole Street. Parking available at two lots at Seminole Street and Osceola Avenue.

Volunteers are still needed and can sign up for the Paint and Installation Day by contacting Lawrence Young, the city of Clearwater’s neighborhood coordinator, at Lawrence.young@myclearwater.com or (727) 562-4559.

The Pop-Up North Marina project will feature some temporary installations for possible improvements using paint and materials on top of several existing streets in the North Marina area that has a boundary of Nicholson Street to the north, Osceola Avenue to the west, the Pinellas Trail to the east and Georgia Street to the south.

These improvements will feature traffic calming, protected areas for pedestrians and bicyclists, sidewalk extensions, on-street parking, enhanced landscaping, flower planters designed by residents, benches, painted pavement art and wayfinding signage.

The two-month long installation will test recommendations from the North Marina Area Master Plan to evaluate how it works and if permanent changes should be made.

The project follows an extensive community engagement process for the North Marina Area Master Plan where residents and stakeholders shared their ideas.

The final Pop-Up North Marina event will be a Community Kickoff and Festival that will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 28 at Fort Harrison Avenue and Seminole Street. The day will be filled with family fun, music, walking and biking tours of the North Marina Master Plan area, food trucks and interactive games for children.

To learn more or to sign up to volunteer for the Paint and Installation Day, contact Lawrence Young, the city’s Clearwater’s neighborhood coordinator, at Lawrence.young@myclearwater.com or (727) 562-4559.
